Creating safer workplaces requires more than policies and procedures. New research from Western University's second national survey on workplace harassment and violence highlights that harmful behaviours remain common across Canadian workplaces and continue to affect workers' well-being, productivity, and trust in their organizations.

In February, Mine Shift had the privilege of attending and speaking at the Mining Camp and Community Safety Forum in Whitehorse hosted by Yukon Women in Mining (YWIM) and Yukon Aboriginal Women’s Council (YAWC). The two‑day gathering created space for honest conversations about physical and psychological safety in mining and exploration workspaces, as well as in mining‑impacted communities across the Yukon.

As Mental Health Week, and Safety & Health Week, coincide with the CIM CONNECT convention and expo (CIM) this year, the mining sector is once again reminded that safety is more than PPE, protocols, and procedures. It is also the culture workers navigate every day.
